Last Words

by Monica

Every day brought new suffering with you.
I would wake from one nightmare
to find out I was still living in another,
and you never failed to reinforce the terror.
Merely existing, hour by hour,
in the worthlessness of my long-dead innocence,
I would wait for you to explode in fury,
frightened of the possibilities.
And after the smoke cleared from the violence,
as I was crying and bleeding you’d laugh and proclaim,
“It hurts, doesn’t it?”

I want you to know that I’ve already forgiven you,
but you are responsible for your own soul.
Consider that before you breathe your last breath,
and suffer in Hell for what you’ve done.
I can smell the abhorrent stench of your arrogance.
Don’t doubt for a second that the demons will find you,
delighting to rip your flesh from your bones,
and no one will be there to mop up the blood.
Tell me now what it feels like
to have maggots devour your body
and to burn, abandoned, for all eternity.
It hurts, doesn’t it?

Thanks Telly.  I titled this "Last words" because I think this is something like what I would say to him if I ever confronted him.

Monica,

I love what you wrote!  You really do have a gift!  I can relate to the thought of waking from one nightmare only to find I was in another.  And yes, my father reinforced the terror, too!  Great writing!!
