Title: Seven Years
Post by Monica on Jan 18th, 2006 at 2:39pm
Seven Years

by Monica Rodgers

Multiple tragedies
forgiven enemies
just cover it up, don't think about it
and maybe it will go away

No simple remedies
to bury the memories
close your eyes, pretend it never happened
and look the other way

You're so afraid of everyone
You're the queen of giving in
Don't you dare tell anyone
the secret pain we're living in
You won't stand up for anything
You're the queen of giving in
Passivity, complacency
and poor excuses are your sins

Just one more denial
Put on your ugly smile
Refuse to believe in the reality
and punish us for "telling lies"

We're not the ones to blame
but we feel the guilt and shame
You could have stopped it, but chose to ignore
what was right before your eyes

You're so afraid of everyone
You're the queen of giving in
Don't you dare tell anyone
the secret pain we're living in
You won't stand up for anything
You're the queen of giving in
Passivity, complacency,
and poor excuses are your sins

We screamed, and you faked deafness
Why are we blaming this on you?
It's nothing that you ever did
It's what you always failed to do

You're so afraid of everything
You're the queen of giving in
Don't you dare tell anyone
the secret pain we're living in
You won't stand up for anything
You're the queen of giving in
Passivity, complacency,
and poor excuses are your sins.

Hey Monica!

That was very powerful.  Sounds like it would make a great song.   That is MY mom as well.  Way to get it all out.  Another song about the way my mom is ~ "Because of You" by Kelly Clarkson.  But this poem is more powerful and direct.  You should try to send it to somebody for recording.  Thanks for sharing.

Big hugs,
Mandi :)

I never really thought about having it recorded.  I wouldn't know who to send it to.

I have no idea whom you could send it to, but if you ever decide to send it out... copyright it first ;)

Monica,

Ines is right on that!! Please get it copyrighted first. Take a look at www.copyright.gov/circs
That should help get you on the right path.

Good luck and best wishes,
Cindy

Hi girl,
I saw our Mom in this too. It's so strange feeling this way when she has asked forgiveness and I thought I had forgiven her too, but I still have much pain and hurt and anger towards her. I totally understand.
Love ya,
Talk to me whenever you want.
Love,
Chantell
