Title: My Paint Brush
Post by warrior_redbird on Sep 14th, 2005 at 3:07pm
My Paint Brush

I own a brush that’s magic
One ‘specially picked
To assist me
In what you see.
I paint a magic mask
And though it may not last,
I keep my paintbrush close by
To cover up my lies.
Lies that tell you I am happy -
Put together comfortably.
Lies that tell you I am coping
Without a bitter sting.
Lies that paint a pretty picture
And tells you that I’m sure...
Sure of faith and love and hope
And proof that I can cope
In an acceptable, healthy way -
Come what may.
I want you to see
Only the painted me.
Afraid you will not like what’s underneath -
What makes up the real me.
For if you saw
That I am flawed
Would you walk away?
I wouldn’t expect you to stay.
But if you stick around
After what you’ve found
The mask may start to peel
Exposing what I feel.
Of course there may be several layers
To this crafty deceiver
And a new face can be painted
As truth can be tainted.
So let me keep my paint brush
As I learn to trust
It helps me feel secure -
It has helped me to endure.....

I like the idea of the paint brush.  I guess I have one, too, to keep people from seeing all of me.  I just want them to see the outside layers.  What a great way of expressing how you feel!
